This started out really good, the writing was solid. But then I think the story went way over the top with the family drama. I think the same story could have been told, but with a custody battle with people who only wanted their only grandchild, rather than homophobic extremists trying to make some cash, and it would have went better. The evil homophobes trope is just getting REAL old. I know it exists, but sometimes, less is more.
