Rarely does a second book in a series live up to or even surpass the first book, but this one did it. It was fun and flirty, a bit angsty, there was action, betrayal, LUST, and finally some love.We revisit the Phoenix Pack to find that they have added a few members- Taryn's friend Shaya, as well as Trent's former packmates Gabe and Jaime. Jaime wants Dante, who doesn't want to admit he wants her. So he stays as far away from her as his position as Beta will allow him to. So finally, Jaime admits defeat and decides to move on, reacquainting herself with old flame Shawn.Oh, HELL no, she didn't. Dante might not want her (or want to admit that he does) but no WAY is he going to let someone else have her, especially a human. He also comes to realize that supposedly Submissive wolf Jaime is hiding something. Something big. Something big bad, alpha, and very damaged. And he makes it his mission in life to find out what that is, and then he makes it his mission to fix the problem.I loved the way Jaime and Dante butted heads. I love that she's smartass enough to give it right back to him, never backing down. And the sex was off the chain hot, and no "woops! surprise!" menage scenes, they know they are IT for each other, even though Jaime likes to tweak at him from time to time. Now, I am anxiously awaiting the next book, to get Nick and Shaya's story. I know that lots of readers are ready to see Nick suffer for his treatment of Shaya (or lack thereof), but I kinda see where he's coming from. He knows that life for a submissive wolf as the mate of an alpha male will NOT be easy, and I think, when we get to his story, we will see that he was trying to protect Shaya from that, NOT that he doesn't think she's good enough. Maybe I'm wrong, but I hope I'm right, and I hope readers really give him a chance to explain his side of things. So far we've only seen how Shaya feels.
