Keeping Sweets

Keeping Sweets - Cate Ashwood This was a really sweet, debut novel by Cate Ashwood. It has a lot of the tropes I really like- the jaded older man, the young naive guy on his own for the first time, (who also happens to have come from a tough life), porn stars, growing up. It was all put together really well.Evan's alcoholic mom died a few years ago, and his (also alcoholic) stepdad let him stay with him until he graduated, then out the door he had to go. He has no clue how is going to live, until he finds an ad for adult modelling, which he later finds out is porn. He's not sure if he'll be able to go through with it, but what can it hurt to feel out the situation?Brandon (Noah) has been doing porn for 10 years now, he's seen and done it all. He's seriously jaded, until he meets Evan, and all he wants is to take care of him, and just to HAVE him for his own.I thought these two men falling for each other was beautiful. The sex was VERY hot but still sensual and sweet. I did think the porn thing was a bit too- wholesome maybe? I don't know what word I'm looking for, but not seedy at all. There were times when scenes were occurring, when the camera crew was hardly mentioned at all, and I wondered where they went. And I wish we had gotten to know the other guys a bit better, the only one who really got any page time was Colton. The rest were pretty much faceless and interchangeable. My only other real complaint about this story was I wanted more detail on Evan's life growing up, especially when talking to Brandon. I just thought his life story needed to come out, and maybe Brand would have understood Evan a bit better, and we wouldn't have had our "big sacrifice" at the end.But all in all, a VERY solid debut (that didn't read like a first novel at all), and I will be looking for more from this author. (maybe a story about Colt??)
