An interesting start to a new vampire series! This book had a LOT of action, I just wish there had been a bit more focus on the love story between Cronin and Alec, being that they are soul mates. A very interesting twist on the history of vampires, along with mummies, Egyptian gods, and various plagues scattered about history.
The vampires reminded me a bit of Twilight vampires. No sparkles, no animal diets or gold/red eyes, but lots of them had unique abilities. I guess this similarity makes sense, since I know Walker wrote some Twific (very good Twific, at that!) back in the day, but these vampires are still their own.
